The Business of Sigma Chi Never Ends

Brothers,

I often say, "the business of Sigma Chi never ends." Today, we should take a moment to celebrate a monumental achievement: The Eta Omicron house mortgage is officially paid off!

This accomplishment was a grand display of love and commitment to Eta Omicron, by Eta Omicron, and for Eta Omicron. We did it! However, while we celebrate yesterday’s victory, our focus must remain steadfast on the needs of the house today. Our mission is to provide a safe, enjoyable "Temple of Friendship" for our undergraduates—and that requires ongoing stewardship.

Enter:

Dick "The Toolman" Clawson

Dick Clawson is the man on the ground ensuring our house remains a point of pride. Dick "The Toolman" has completed a comprehensive audit of the property and identified up to $81,500 in essential repairs.

The Priority Project: The Trex Deck

Dick is sounding the alarm on the back deck. When the new house was built in 2006, I was insistent on installing a high-quality Trex deck. It was a $14,500 investment then, but after 20 brutal winters, "The Toolman" says it has reached its limit. To replace the deck in today’s market is a cost estimate of $30,000.

 The Toolman’s Project List

Dick has categorized the work into three priority phases. We need your help to check these off the list:

 Priority #1: ACT NOW ($12,000 | $30,000)

  • Deck Repair: Remove and replace the weathered 2006 Trex - $12,000

  • Full Deck Replacement: Removing the weathered 2006 Trex and installing an entire new modern, durable deck for chapter gatherings. - $30,000

 Priority #2: NEXT UP ($24,000)

  • Replace tile in six remaining bedrooms with LVP - $10,000

  • Interior painting in common areas - $10,000

  • Replace 20 blinds - $4,000

Priority #3: THE WATCH LIST ($27,500)

  • Exterior painting - $7,500

  • Replace broken tiles in common areas - $15,000

  • Seal parking lot, re-stripe lot - $3,000

  • Power wash exterior - $2,000

Long Term Project Needs. All items are 20 years old in 2026:

  • New Roof

  • New Boiler

  • New Storage tank/hot water heater

  • Keeping watch on front retaining wall that will need to be replaced
